J. C. Buehler has been active as a pilot and lawyer for over 35 years. Since 1973, he has worked as an instructor, charter pilot, air carrier Director of Operations and  as a captain, check airman and Corporate Counsel with a Part 121 Air Carrier. He represented the airline before state and federal courts, the FAA and DOT, and served on the ICAO Disruptive Passenger Task Force, Nav Database Working Gourp, and the Litigation Committee of the Airlines for America. He is a partner in SolutionsAir, a Part 135 Air Carrier, and serves as a Designated Pilot Examiner.

The Buehler Law Group emphasizes insurance, subrogation, and aviation law, including compliance, legal opinions, transactions, and enforcement.

J.C. is admitted in Indiana and Illinois, and is a member of the Indianapolis and Indiana State Bar Associations, the Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association, and the International Air & Transportation Safety Bar Assocation. He is a registered Civil Mediator.

Since the early 1980's, he has been actively involved in education and public service, including as an Adjunct Professor of Aviation Law, Indiana University McKinney School of Law (2017-present); Commercial Law, Indiana University Kelley School of Business (1982-87); and, Business Law, University of Indianapolis (1980-82). He has been a presenter and faculty at numerous continuing legal education seminars, and guest lectured in Aviation Law at the McKinney School of Law, and Aviation Law and Aviation Safety at the Purdue University School of Aviation Technology. He is the author of several articles and continuing education presentations on aviation law and related topics.  From 2000-2004, he served a Hearing Judge with the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, and from 1981-99, was a judge pro tem in the Marion County Municipal and Superior Courts. He was a Wing Legal Officer and Stan Eval Check Pilot with the Civil Air Patrol/USAFA, and proudly serves as a Reserve Deputy with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department. He is on the boards of the Indiana Aviation Hall of Fame, Inc., Science on Tap, Inc., and the Heroes Club, Inc.
