J. C. Buehler has been an active aviator  since obtaining a Private certificate in 1973. He attended law school at Indiana University and is admitted to practice in Indiana (1980) and Illinois (1991). He is a Registered Civil Mediator and holds ATP and CFI-A/I/MEI certificates with Rotocraft-Helo privileges and type ratings in CE-525S, CE-500; IA-JET, B727, B737, and B757/767.  From 1984 to 2008, JC was a pilot with ATA Airlines where, as corporate counsel, he also represented the airline at the FAA, DOT, on the ICAO Disruptive Passenger Task Force and the Airlines for America Litigation Committee. In 2007, he co-founded SolutionsAir, a Part 135 carrier. He was appointed as an FAA-Designated Pilot Examiner in 2006. His practice emphasizes aviation, subrogation, and mediation. He is a member of the Indianapolis, Indiana State, Lawyer-Pilots, and International Air & Transportation Safety Bar Associations, the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators, and Quiet Birdmen. Since 2017, JC has been adjunct professor of Aviation Law at the Indiana University McKinney School of Law since 2017 having held previous adjunct appointments with the Indiana University Kelley School of Business (1982-86) and the University of Indianapolis (1980-82). He has authored articles on law and aviation safety and presented at continuing legal education and safety seminars.  He was a hearing judge with the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission, and a judge pro tem in the Marion County Superior Courts. He has served as Wing Legal Officer/Check Pilot with the Civil Air Patrol/USAFA, as a Federal Flight Deck Officer (2002-07), and a Reserve Deputy, Hamilton County Sheriff's Department since 2007. He is the Chairman of the Indiana Aviation Hall of Fame, Inc., and a director of Science on Tap, Inc., and the Heroes Club, Inc.
